Romania felt like opening a box without knowing what’s inside – only to realize, again and again, that you had underestimated it. It was a place that constantly shifted in front of the lens, never settling into a single story. Layers of history – Dacian, Roman, Transylvanian Saxon, and the traces of a more recent communist past – blending into the complex present.
There’s a sense of history that isn’t staged, it simply exists, woven into daily life. Wooden gates, worn facades, people moving through places that feel unchanged and yet very present. Romania was unexpected, and every turn seemed to reveal something new: medieval villages opening into wide landscapes, and a buzzing capital giving way to the quiet of dense forests.
